ECCC Softball Squad Hammers MS Delta

March 7, 2013 News Release: Winning ways continue for East Central Community College’s fast-pitch softball squad, which recorded a doubleheader sweep of Mississippi Delta Community College Wednesday, March 7 on the Morehead campus.

The Lady Diamond Warriors won the opener by a 6-3 margin and cruised 22-2 in the nightcap to improve to 14-4 under first-year head coach Kristin Chaney and assistant Courtney Nunn.

Ty Buckley tripled and knocked in a run and Amber McBroom collected a two-run single in leading the EC offense in the opener.

Buckley is a freshman infielder from Neshoba Central and McBroom, a freshman infielder/pitcher from Brandon.

Other hitters were Marlee Massey of Neshoba Central, double; LaJoya Griffin of Philadelphia and Kristen Chipley of Leake Academy, single and RBI each; and Morgan Porter of Enterprise and A.J. Peeler and Dakota Vowell, both of Neshoba Central, singles each.

Runs were scored by Porter (2), Griffin, Buckley, Chipley and Kaylin Hopkins of Louisville.

Tenna Patterson picked up the win, as the Lexington (Ala.) High School product allowed three earned runs on four hits in the seven-hitting battle. She also fanned seven batters and walked one.

In the second contest, EC bats came alive with 24 hits in the five-inning matchup.

Numerous Lady Warriors recorded multiple hits, including Vowell, four singles and RBI; Porter, two triples, a single and four RBIs; Buckley, triple, double, single and two RBIs; McBroom, two doubles, single and two RBIs; Chipley, two doubles and four RBIs; Peeler, three singles; Hayley Stephens of Union, two singles and two RBIs; Massey, two singles; Hopkins, single and RBI; and Laken Fulcher of Nanih Waiya, single.

Runs were scored by McBroom (4), Vowell (3), Griffin, Porter, Buckley, Hopkins, Chipley and Massey, two each; Peeler, Fulcher and Casey Cherry of Union. Griffin was also credited with an RBI.

Mary Sanders was the winning hurler, allowing two earned runs on two hits in the five-inning contest. She also fanned four batters and walked one. Sanders is a product of Adams County Christian School.

The Lady Diamond Warriors travel to Copiah-Lincoln Community College Saturday, March 9 to begin MACJC South Division competition. Game times are 1 and 3 p.m. on the Wesson campus.

EC hosts division foe Hinds Community College Wednesday, March 13 during Spring Break Week. Doubleheader action gets under way at 3 p.m. on the Decatur campus.
