Rumors of Dog Thefts Appear Unfounded

Stories of dog thefts across Winston County appear to be nothing more than rumors. Recent reports, predominantly on Facebook, speak of traveling salemen coming to private homes in the County on the pretense of selling items (often meat sales), checking for dogs and returning at a later time to steal the animals.

WMC Hosting Art Contest

Winston Medical Center is hosting an Art Contest for a t-shirt design for the annual health fair that will be held on September 24, 2013. Any person of any age may submit an artwork design to be voted on by the Health Fair Committee. The theme for this year's health fair is, "Our community, Our Family, Your Health." Artwork can be emailed tobkrajewski@winstonmedical.org or it can to be mailed to WMC c\o Marketing, PO BOX 967, Louisville, Ms 39339. Entries must be turned in by August 12th.

Tuesday Morning Burglary/Water Association Funds Taken

The Winston County Sheriff's Department is investigating a break-in and burglary that occurred on Tuesday morning around 2:30 at a residence on Hwy 15N. The homeowner reported hearing a sound at 2:30 am but did not discover the break-in until 6:30 am at which time, he contacted law enforcement.

County/City Reach Agreement on 911 Operation

After months of discussion and debate, Winston County and City of Louisville officials have hammered out a new agreement on all management and responsibility of E911.  On Tuesday, July 30, the Louisville Board of Alderman adopted a resolution that creates a newly structured Oversight Committee for 911.  County officials signed  the document last week.

Two MSU Alumni Growing Bright Future with Tribe

MISSISSIPPI STATE – A partnership between two Mississippi State University alumni and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians is bearing fruit under three hoop houses next to Conehatta Elementary School.

For 10 years, Dick Hoy, Class of 1976, and Jim McAdory, Class of 1998 and an MSU Extension agent for the tribe, have been exchanging tips on agriculture and greenhouse operations. This year, they broke ground on the first of at least three school-based farms designed to teach students about gardening and healthier eating.

The Winston County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in locating Reginald (Reggie) Gerrod Moore. Moore is a 26 year old black male wanted for sale of a controlled substance, escape and probation violations. Winston County Board of Supervisors Meet in Wednesday Session

The Winston County Board of Supervisors met on Wednesday, July 24 as they continued in session throughout July for the public examination of tax rolls. The Board dealt with a number of issues including the WCCRCF, a 911 agreement with the City of Louisville, an advertisemen for bids on a new garbage truck and an agreement with a firm to provide electronoc monitoring for youth offenders. Clark is wanted on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and resisting arrest by fleeing.

Clark is on the run from law enforcement and any one who assist or aids him may also be committing a serious crime!

Hunt Promoted to Captain with LPD

On July 24, 2013, Sgt. Edward Hunt, a 14 year law enforcement officer, was promoted to the rank of captain in the Louisville Police Department. Captain Hunt began his career in the Ackerman Police Department and moved to Louisville in 2003 where he has been employed by the Louisville Police Department for the past 11 years. Hunt's scores on written tests and interviews along with his seniority qualified him for promotion within the Department.

Louisville PD Seize Drugs in Traffic Stop

On Wednesday July 17th, 2013 Officers of the Louisville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Garrigues Road. The smell of green marijuana lead to the search of the the vehicle and the discovery of this large quantity of marijuana.The driver fled on foot and warrants have been issued for a MarQuis Davis.Pctured with the marijuana is Officer Toby Lee.

Winston County Child Dies In Tragic Accident

A 3 year old Winston County child is dead after being run over by a car in his home driveway. 3 year old Jaylen Jones was pronounced dead at University Medical Center in Jackson, MS at 8:01pm on Friday during surgery to save his life.

Lions Club Golf Tournament Set For July 20

The Louisville Country Club will be the scene for the Louisville Lion's Club annual 2 Man/Woman Scramble on Saturday, July 20. Registration for the tournament will begin at 8:15 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. Fees are $45 per person, and $90 per team. Businesses and organizations can also sponsor an individual hole for $120.

NAACP Back-to-School Rally

On Saturday,July 20, 2013, the Winston County Branch of the NAACP will hold its annual Back-to-School Rally at Dean Park in the Center Ridge Community from 5 to 7 p.m.
Every summer for the past seven years students and families of Winston County have had a chance to get "pumped-up" for school at the NAACP Back-to-School Rally.

Former ECCC Diamond Warrior Tim Anderson Named NJCAA Male Athlete of the Year

Presley Announces Effort to Bring High-Speed Internet Service to Rural North Mississippi

Press Release: Jackson, Mississippi (July 9, 2013) – Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley announced today a new effort to enlist the public in bringing high speed internet access to North Mississippi. In the vein of the highly successful Zap the Gap campaign which gathers information on wireless cell phone coverage, Presley introduced the Broadband Survey as a means of identifying areas lacking high speed internet.

One Arrested in Early Morning Search

The Winston County Sheriff's Department executed a search warrant on Selma Avenue early this morning (July 11). During the search, deputies seized a quantity of marijuana, digital scales and cash.
Arrested was Larry Dixon, who has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1500 feet of a church. Mr. Dixon is curently in jail awaiting bond hearing.

EPA Superfund Cleanup at Louisville Site Progressing

EPA official Michael Arnette provided detailed information on Wednesday (July 11) concerning the ongoing cleanup operation at the American Creosote Works site on Railroad and Baremore Streets in Louisville. Arnette, the Remedial Project Manager indicated that the project was 34% complete and barring any complications, cleanup should be completed by mid- 2015.

4-H Winners Learn Business on Tour

MISSISSIPPI STATE – Some of Mississippi’s top young people will experience the business world through a four-day state tour known as the 2013 4-H Cooperative Business Leadership Conference.

The conference involves the state’s 4-H Leadership Team members and this year’s 4-H Congress first-place, senior-level competition winners.

Sanders Speaks to Mayors Youth Council on College Readiness

On June 24th, Judy Sanders came and spoke to the Mayors Youth Council of Louisville about college readiness. Her topics varied from what to do in the ninth through twelfth grades to ACT prep tips. Such as in the ninth grade, find a career. Ask your counselor about making a course of study for that career. Also, take the PLAN test. It is a great way to prepare for the actual ACT test.

In what may have been the largest crowd ever, kids and families gathered on Tuesday (July 2) for Louisville's annual Red/White/Blue Parade held on Main Street.

The Parade for kids up to age twelve is part of the community's Independence Day celebrations that included a fireworks display later in the evening.

LMSD Selects New Principal for Eiland

In a special board meeting of the Louisville Municipal School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday (July 2), Mrs Juanna Young was named the Principal at Eiland Middle School. Young has been serving in an interim capacity at Eiland for several months.

Redemption of Delinquent Tax Sale Property Scheduled for August 29

Supervisors Learn of Airport Grant and County Assessments

Winston County Supervisors received word on Monday that the Louisville/Winston County Airport had received a grant from MDOT to rebuild and repair the slope on the north end of the airport property. Heavy rains during the winter had caused the area to slide, endangering the north end of the existing runway. The grant for $289,000 should provide for dirt work and stabilization.

Municipal Court Judge David Wilson swore in city officials today (July 1) at Louisville City Hall. The Mayor, City Clerk and Aldermen were reelected in June’s general election. Department heads, family members and media observed the ceremony.

ECCC Teams/Players Recognized for Classroom Success

News Release: Decatur – Seven East Central Community College athletic teams and numerous student-athletes were recognized for academic achievement by the National Junior College Athletic Association, according to a news release from the NJCAA Headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Child Dies in Vehicle on Saturday

A two year old died on Saturday on the Crystal Ridge Reservation in southern Winston County. Sheriff and rescue personnel were called around mid-day to the home of Chris and Tammy Eaves in the Nanih Waiya area. A child was found unresponsive and transported to the Winston Medical Center where after initial efforts were made to revive the two year old, Winston County Coroner Scott Gregory pronounced the child dead around 1:00 pm.

Louisville 9 Yr Olds Win South Title
