Child Dies in Vehicle on Saturday

A two year old died on Saturday on the Crystal Ridge Reservation in southern Winston County. Sheriff and rescue personnel were called around mid-day to the home of Chris and Tammy Eaves in the Nanih Waiya area. A child was found unresponsive and transported to the Winston Medical Center where after initial efforts were made to revive the two year old, Winston County Coroner Scott Gregory pronounced the child dead around 1:00 pm.

Once it was determined that the incident occurred on the Choctaw Reservation, the investigation was turned over to tribal police. Preliminary reports indicate that the child was playing hide and seek with other children in the household, entered a parked vehicle on the property and was unable to get out. Saturday's temperatures reached the mid-90's. Reports indicate that the mother found the unresponsive child and called emergency personnel.

The incident is under investigation by tribal authorities and an autopsy is scheduled in Jackson for sometime today (Monday - July1).
