No Go for High Point Park - At Least For Now

LMSD Trustees met with Gloria Turnipseed on Tuesday (Sept 10) concerning a desired park in the High Point area. Turnipseed has been working with a group in an attempt to establish such a park on school-owned 16th section land. The approximately 20 acre site is currently under lease until October, 2015 to an individual as a hunting lease.

Previous issues arose concerning any hazard associated with a park due to hunting in the area. Turnipseed indicated that this should not be a problem as the park was not expected to be in use during the winter months. Money has been spent on design plans and to establish a 501C status, said Turnipseed.

After discussion, the Board recognized the need for such a park but informed Turnipseed that at this point there was nothing that could be done. The current leaseholder has informed the District that he has no intention of relinquishing the lease or any part of it until the lease terms are complete. The Board determined that legally there was nothing that could be done at this time.

Turnipseed thanked the Board but indicated, " We are willing to wait but there is a need. I will come back when the lease is up."
