Wildcats Bring 3A Title Home!!

Fans who braved the cold on Saturday (Dec 7) at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson were rewarded with one of the best games of the year as Louisville defeated Hazlehurst for the 3A State Championship. The 30-28 win capped off an undefeated season for the Wildcats.
The game was not decided until the last few moments as Hazlehurst scored with under a minute to play to make the score 30-28. A 2 point conversion would tie  and likely send the MHSAA title game to overtime. Senior defensive tackle Malik Slaughter was able to bat down a pass in the end zone from Hazlehurst quarterback Jarvis Warner to preserve the win. The following onside kick was unsuccessful and Louisville was able to run out the clock.

As expected, Hazlehurst was the toughest opponent of the year for the Wildcats.  Louisville overcame two fumbles and a 87 yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter.  Hazlehurst also threw for 3 touchdown passes in the game.  Hazlehurst won the state title game last year and finished the season with a 14-2 record.

Louisville is one of only five teams in history in Mississippi to finish with the 16-0 record. With the win the Wildcats captured their 8th state title. Senior quarterback Wyatt Roberts threw for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns passes and also rushed for a touchdown. Avante Harris rush for 111 yards on the ground and Desmond Goss led the Wildcats with 72 yards receiving,  followed by Dontea Jones with 48.

Senior linebacker Jeremy Sangster also got into the act by rushing for a touchdown. In the end, it will be the big defensive plays that will be remembered from this game including 3 fumble recoveries, a safety and Slaughter's knockdown of the two-point conversion at the end of the game.
