City and Eco/Devo Consider the Hire of a Retail Consulting Firm

City of Louisville Officials met with representatives of a national retail consulting, market research and development firm on Tuesday in an effort to recruit more businesses to the area.

Kelly Cofer with "The Retail Coach" provided information on his company's services to assist communities develop a retail economic development plan that includes collecting and analyzing demographic data, recognizing an area's strengths and weaknesses and assisting with marketing to the right potential retailers and restaurants while supporting existing businesses.

Cofer indicated that bringing in the right businesses and recognizing the specific needs of a community for local development without over-saturating the market can benefit a community in sales tax and in property tax revenue.

The City of Louisville and the Winston County Economic Partnership have expressed interest in retaining the organization and have agreed in principal to contract for services pending participation by Winston County and Louisville Utilities. The one year agreement would cost an estimated $30,000.
