Engineering Division will host Camp AMP this summer to
expose middle and high school students to manufacturing
methods and opportunities in the Golden Triangle area.
Camp AMP begins June 2 but the registration deadline is
May 2. More information can be found online at

“Camp AMP is the perfect opportunity for both middle and high school students to be exposed to what awaits them in the real world,” said Susan Baird, assistant dean in EMCC’s Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering Division.

“Unfortunately, most secondary students do not realize how many job opportunities are available to them right here in their own back yard. Camp AMP will provide both industry tours and hands-on skills training for students so that they may gain a better understanding of the technology that is involved in the advanced manufacturing companies in our area.”

Three sessions for various age groups will begin June 2, but the registration deadline for all sessions is May 2. Registration forms and a liability waiver can be downloaded at www.eastms.edu; visit the Workforce tab. Hard copies of the paperwork must be mailed to EMCC.

Camp AMP will introduce seventh- through twelfth-graders to manufacturing methods such as computer-aided design, 3-D printing and rapid prototyping. Students will learn about job opportunities in and around the Golden Triangle and will get a first-hand glimpse at what those jobs look like via tours of local industries.

For six hours per day for a full week, each group of students will receive instruction from EMCC’s technical trainers and representatives from local industries.

Camp AMP for seventh- and eighth-graders will run June 2-6. Ninth- and tenth-graders will attend June 9-13. And eleventh- and twelfth-graders will attend June 16-20.

Only 12 slots are available per age group. Registration is $25.
