Board of Animal Health Dealing with Loss of More than 100,000 Chickens from Disaster

The Mississippi Bureau of Animal Health with assistance from the National Conservation Resource Center is dealing with a difficult aftermath of Monday's tornado. Officials indicate that 100,000 chickens died from power loss alone in Winston County. Here are some basic statistics:

  • 13 Farms affected for a total of 61 chicken houses
  • Broiler houses  - 32 major damage, 22 minor damage
  • Breeder Houses  - 4 with major damage
MBAH has 4 teams on the ground insuring proper burial at 5 emergency burial pits.
