Winston County Coroner Scott Gregory, currently serving his third term as Coroner for  Winston County, Mississippi was unanimously elected as Vice President of the Mississippi Coroner/Medical Examiner Association via the 162 members of the Association on Friday, July 11, 2014.  Gregory will begin serving his two-year term as Vice President in January 2015. Gregory is also currently the District 5 President for the 10 counties surrounding Winston County.

Gregory, Chief Medical Examiner Investigator for Winston County, served as District President from 2007- 2009 and 2011, 2012 as well as 2014, presiding over a 10 county area including: Calhoun, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Clay, Lowndes, Monroe, Noxubee, Oktibbeha , Webster and Winston.

As District President, Gregory has been serving on the executive board of the Mississippi coroner/medical examiner for this year and is in charge of overseeing the monthly district meetings to allow coroners and deputy coroners in the 10 county districts to receive part of their required 24 hours per year of continuing education.

Each district meeting counts as two hours continuing education for each coroner so that they can get recertified at the close of each year to continue to serve as coroner in his or her county.  The meetings feature different speakers each month teaching a variety of different subjects regarding death investigation and are spread out equally among the 10 counties so that each county coroner can adjust their schedule accordingly in order to attend the meetings and receive the hours needed.

Gregory stated, "I am honored to have been elected by my peers in the state of Mississippi to serve as Vice President of our outstanding association. It is indeed a huge honor to have been selected by all the members of the association to serve as a vice president. I look forward to working along with Ellis Stewart, Copiah County Coroner and President-Elect as well as Ginger Meriweather, Secretary- Elect and Tallahatchie County Coroner as well as the corners of each Mississippi County. I also want to thank my family and the citizens of Winston County for their prayers and support as I continue serve this great county as coroner. Thank you to all of the voters who helped re-elect me in 2011 to the Winston County coroner's office.  I look forward to serving out 2014 as District President and striving to help make the Mississippi Coroner/Medical Examiner Association, a stronger organization. I ask for your continued support and prayers and I look forward to working with the Governor and the members of the House and Senate in the upcoming two years."

The Mississippi Coroner/Medical Examiner Association is responsible for providing continuing education credits for all corners of Mississippi. It is mandatory through state law that all coroners and their deputies complete 24 hours of continuing education hours per year and once per term complete a 40 hour death investigation course in order to serve in the corner.
