What's on the Ballot in Next Tuesday's General Election?

Most residents are familiar with the U.S.Senate race that matches
incumbent Republican Thad Cochran against Democratic challenger Travis Childers and the U.S. House of Representative race for the 1st Congressional District but there are a number of other elected positions on the ballot for Tuesday, November 4.

In addition to unopposed Judge positions in the Court of Appeals, Circuit and Chancery Courts, there will be a new LMSD School Board member from District Two as Mark Dillard and Jerry Hemphill seek to fill the position currently occupied by Bobby Moody who is not seeking re-election.

Also on the ballot is a Ms. Constitutional Amendment that seeks to establish hunting and fishing as a constitutional right within the state. This amendment was prompted to oppose pressure from some animal rights groups in the state and across the country. Seventeen other states have some form of constitutional guarantee.

A sample ballot is shown below:
The Winston County Circuit Clerk's Office will be open on Saturday, November 1 til noon for absentee voting and polls will be open from 7:00 am til 7:00 pm on Tuesday.
