Military Veterans Honored at ECCC

Brigadier General Billy Pierce (left) of Decatur addresses a packed room full of fellow veterans at the second annual Military Appreciation Breakfast held Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, on the East Central Community College campus in Decatur. Pierce, an ECCC alumnus, served 36 years in the Mississippi Army National Guard prior to his retirement in 2004. Other program participants included ECCC President Dr. Billy Stewart, welcome and invocation; Warrior football player Darryl Rogers of Laurel, singing of the national anthem; Wall O’ Sound trumpeter Nina Labue of Decatur, playing of “Taps;” and presentation of colors by Wesly Boykin and John Michael Everett, members of Boy Scout Troop 46. The military veterans received a standing ovation from ECCC students as they entered Mabry Memorial Cafeteria after leaving the Molly McGee Gold Room, where the breakfast/program was held. (EC Photo)
