To recognize one of our own, the community of Louisville and Winston Academy prepared a hero's welcome as he arrived back from the competition. With a sheriff and then police escort along with a fire engine from the Louisville Fire Department, Dev and his mother and sister were greeted by a chanting crowd of well-wishers at the Home Gate Inn, the family's home and property.
With hugs all around, the sometime emotional young man saved his biggest hug for his Dad, Upendra, who was unable to attend the national competiton near Washington, D.C.
Representatives from Mississippi State were on hand with a special
surprise - and a request for Dev to throw out the first pitch next season for the Bulldogs at Dudy Noble Field.
Dev was overwhelmed by the show of support and told the crowd, "This has been the best experience of my life.Thank you for all the support. This is the best trophy that I could receive.”
