ECCC Softball Players Earn First Team All-State Honors

East Central Community College softball players Maegen Ellis of
West Point and Mahalia Gibson of Hattiesburg have been named first team Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges All-State for their play during the recently completed season.

Ellis and Gibson are members of an ECCC team which finished runner up in the recent National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Softball National Championship. The second-place finish in the nation is the highest-ever for the Decatur college’s softball program. East Central finished the season with a 48-14 record.

Ellis, a freshman shortstop who prepped at Oak Hill Academy, hit .310 for East Central this spring, including 42 RBIs and a team-leading 61 runs scored.

Gibson, a freshman first baseman and a product of Oak Grove High School, batted .406 with 80 hits, including 24 doubles and 52 RBIs, all team bests. She also was named to the NJCAA National Championship All-Tournament Team.

Ellis and Gibson tied for the team lead in home runs with 11 each.
