Contract for Demolition of Hospital Approved

After reviewing bids and discussing some aspects in executive
session on Monday night (June 15), The board members of the Winston County Medical Foundation approved a contract with Century Construction and Real Estate of Tupelo for the full demolition of the damaged hospital and surrounding structures including houses purchased to expand the site.

Work will begin on the  $656,000 contract as soon as final paperwork from regulatory agencies and FEMA has been received. According to WMC CEO Paul Black, work could begin as early as next week if the final approvals are in place.

Initial work on the demolition may not be readily obvious to the casual observer as asbestos removal must be completed prior to actual structure demolition.

The Winston Medical Foundation, a 501(c)3 not for profit leases the Medical Center and grounds from Winston County. The demolition and upcoming construction is a cooperative effort between these parties.
