Escapee Spotted in Winston County - Sheriff Pugh Urges Caution

CAPTURED!!; DETAILS COMING UP.  The Winston County Sheriff Jason Pugh has advised the media that
Michael Shafer , an escapee from the Union County jail has been seen in Winston County this evening.

Pugh indicated that it is believed that Shafer was dropped off in a wooded area along HWY490 near  East Winston Road earlier today. Sheriff's deputies and multiple agencies are currently involved in a search of the area as of 8:30 pm.

Shafer was arrested in Winston County on July 5th on parole violations and returned to Union County before he escaped in the early morning hours today.

Shafer is described as a white male, 5'10" in height and around 175 pounds. Age 28 with brown hair, blue eyes and a tree tattoo on his arm. It is believed that Shafer is wearing a black t-shirt and dark colored shorts.

Sheriff Pugh is asking all residents in the area to use caution,  remove all keys from vehicles and lock doors and report anything suspicious to 911. Law enforcement is currently in the area and continuing the search.
