Woodward Discusses the Functions of the Tax Assessor's Office with REPM

The Retired Educational Personnel of Mississippi met on Thursday
in a regular meeting with Winston County Tax Assessor/Collector Larry Woodward as the special guest.

Woodward took the opportunity to explain the tax process on real estate and on personal property taxes to the members.  He went into detail concerning appraisal, homestead exemption, mil levies and the taxing authorities who set mil levies. He also commented and explained the procedures that were used after the April 28th tornado. Members had several questions including the cost to the school district for collecting taxes.  School taxes are collected by the county and the city.

REPM's next meeting is scheduled for September 3rd.
