Local Fire Departments Respond To Fire At The Winston-Choctaw County Correctional Facility

At approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday night September 6, Louisville Fire Department and multiple volunteer departments responded to a fire at the Winston-Choctaw County Regional Correctional Facility. The small fire broke out in the attic area over the kitchen. The fire was determined to be caused by an air conditioning unit.

WCCRCF Warden Neal Higgason told WWN that prisoners were evacuated into a designated area as part of the prison plan and there were no injuries to prisoners or personnel at the facility. The fire damage was limited and cost for repairs were estimated between $4000-$5000.

Higgason said, "I would like to commend the Louisville Fire Department, they did a great job. They used their technology to pinpoint the hot spot and took care of business. I would also like to commend the jail staff for the great job they did with dealing with the prisoners."
