Gerald Mills is Awarded as the 2016 MEDC Honorary Life Member

The Mississippi Economic Development Council (MEDC) announced that Gerald Mills was awarded as the 2016 MEDC Honorary Life Member on February 4th, 2016. Honorary Life Membership may be granted to individuals upon retirement to recognize their long and distinguished service in furthering economic development and community development in the State of Mississippi and the aims of the council. Nominations and qualifications are presented to the MEDC Board of Directors. 

Gerald Mills has always been a great supporter of MEDC and has been a member since 1987. He continues to work in any way that he can to help promote MEDC and the State of Mississippi.

Gerald Mills is currently the Executive Director of the Winston County Economic Development District Partnership. He began work for the Partnership after 20 years of service to the Mississippi Development Authority where he worked with all of his districts Economic Developers to bring industry to their community and help make each community stronger.

Gerald is responsible for the economic development efforts for Winston County which includes recruitment of new business, promoting the health of existing businesses and assisting with the creation of startup businesses. He is responsible for the small business incubator, a 501c-3 revolving loan fund, manages three industrial parks and four industrial buildings. Gerald has recruited business to Winston County, the latest being Winston Plywood and Veneer, a plywood mill that will employ 250 - 350 direct jobs with well over a 1000 indirect jobs. Gerald has worked to secure over 10 million dollars of grant funds to Winston County. His main focus is developing the assets of Winston County to be a better place to live and do business. 

He serves on the Three Rivers Planning and Development Board of Directors, Sustainable Bio-Products Advisory Committee and various other boards that promote the wellbeing of the Great State of Mississippi.

Gerald is married to Janice England Mills; they have three children and seven grandchildren.

Wilson Webb, General Manager of Louisville Utilities, said in his nomination letter “Gerald has been a tremendous asset to Winston county, not only as a Council Director, but a Community Developer as well. Gerald has brought jobs to Winston County as well as many grant awards to better our community.”

Sonny Simmons, CEO of Panola Partnership, stated that “Gerald has worked tirelessly for almost 30 years in Economic Development in MS and has been responsible for the creation of numerous new jobs and new investment within our state and within the communities he has served.”
