ECCC Lady Diamond Warriors Sweep Copiah-Lincoln

Powered by the bat of sophomore Katlyn Duke in the 9-5 game two win, the East Central Community College Lady Diamond Warriors swept Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Tuesday, March 22 in Wesson.

The product of Neshoba Central High School, Duke racked up six RBI on three hits, including a home run in the second inning of game two.

In the error less game two win, ECCC scored five runs in the first and then added three more in the second to build an early 8-2 lead.

Chloe Thaggard of Leake Academy picked up her 14th win of the 2016 season. She struck out four over seven innings.

In a close game one, Mahalia Gibson of Oak Grove High School homered in the top of the eight to score Summer Lavender of Canton Academy for the 7-5 victory over Co-Lin.

Gibson racked up two RBI and got on base every time she came to bat. Maegen Ellis of Oak Hill Academy in West Point also tacked on two RBI.

The Lady Diamond Warriors led 4-1 until the seventh when Co-Lin responded with three runs to tie the ballgame and send it into extra innings.

East Central jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. A solo home run by Caitlyn Aldous of Petal High School started the inning off.

ECCC responded to Co-Lin’s comeback with three runs in the eighth for the win.

Lacey Hill out of Kilbourne (La.) High School got it done in the circle picking up the win in game one. She struck out nine, including three in the eighth to end the game, and gave up eight hits over eight innings.

The Lady Diamond Warriors improved to 27-4 overall and 11-3 in MACJC play. Co-Lin’s Lady Wolves dropped to 18-8 overall and 9-5 in the conference.

The No. 3 nationally ranked ECCC will face Itawamba Community College’s No. 10 softball team, Friday, March 25, in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. in Decatur.
