ECCC Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Hinds

Sophomore pitcher Lacey Hill’s one-hit shutout game allowed the No.3 nationally ranked East Central Community College Lady Diamond Warriors to win their softball series over Hinds Community College, Thursday, March 17, in Decatur.ECCC improved its MACJC conference record to 7-3 with the doubleheader sweep and is now 23-4 overall on the 2016 season.

Hinds dropped to 6-17 overall and 3-7 in the conference. Hill, a product of Kilbourne (La.) High School, struck out four batters to hold the Lady Eagles from getting on the scoreboard in the game one 4-0 victory. East Central scored three runs in the bottom of the third, sparked by Sumrall High School product Brittney McCray’s double that brought home Mahalia Gibson out of Oak Grove High School.

Powered by the hitting of Andi Hanniford out of Magnolia Heights High School in Senatobia and Courtney Moore of Clinton High School, the Lady Diamond Warriors defeated Hinds 9-1 in game two.

Hannaford hit a two-run home run in the fifth and Moore drove in two runs.

An RBI double by Gibson and a sacrifice fly by McCray in the first inning and an RBI single by Caitlyn Aldous out of Petal High School in the second inning helped give East Central an early 4-0 lead.

Chloe Thaggard out of Leake Academy picked up another win for the 2016 season. She struck out five and allowed one run in five innings in the circle.

Mississippi Delta Community College is the next opponent for East Central. The doubleheader will played on the Decatur campus, Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m.
