No. 3 Lady Diamond Warriors Sweep Holmes In Softball Action

Chloe Thaggard pitched a three-hit shutout ballgame to help the East Central Community College Lady Diamond Warriors sweep Holmes Community College in a softball doubleheader in Goodman, Tuesday, March 15. After having a week off due to inclement weather, the ECCC softball team defeated Holmes with an 8-2 game one victory and 3-0 game two win.

The Lady Diamond Warriors improved to 21-4 overall and 5-3 in MACJC conference play. Holmes fell to 6-12-1 overall and 1-7 in the conference.

Thaggard’s strong performance in the circle allowed her to pick up her 11th win of the season. The sophomore from Leake Academy allowed no runs and struck out three in game two against the Lady Bulldogs.

Sophomore Mahalia Gibson out of Oak Grove High School hit her fourth home run of the season to begin the scoring in the nightcap. The other two East Central runs were powered by the bat of Andi Hannaford out of Magnolia Heights School in Senatobia.

East Central out hit the Holmes 11-2 in game one for the win.

Hanna Ford again powered the East Central offense with three RBI, including a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh.

The seventh inning featured the Lady Diamond Warriors scoring four runs to secure the win.

Lacey Hill out of Kilbourne (La.) High School picked up the win with a strong performance in the circle. She allowed just two hits, no earned runs and struck out six in seven innings.

East Central’s Lady Diamond Warriors will be back in MACJC action Thursday, March 17, against Hinds Community College at the Softball Park in Decatur in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
