East Central Baseball Gets Road Sweep over East Mississippi

An 11-run third inning propelled the East Central Community College baseball team to a 14-0 game two, five inning run-rule win and sweep over the East Mississippi Community College Lions Saturday, April 9, in Scooba. 

With the wins, the Diamond Warriors improved to 24-14 overall and 12-6 in MACJC play. East Mississippi dropped to 10-20 overall and 6-8 in the conference. East Central is now tied for third place in the conference standings.

Right-hander Peyton Cain of Newton County High School held EMCC to only four hits in game two and struck out three batters in getting the nightcap win.

ECCC started the scoring in the second inning with three runs thanks to an RBI double by Nathan Roseberry of Purvis High School and a two-run single by Brandon Clark of Neshoba Central High School.

East Central followed with the 11 runs in third on an RBI single by Reagan Warren of Newton County High School, a two-run single by Matthew Mitchell of Lake High School, and an RBI double by Brandon Parker of Quitman High School. The Diamond Warriors also benefited from two hit batters, three walks and an error.

In game one, ECCC came back from a five-run deficit to win 9-8. EMCC held the lead until the eighth when the Diamond Warriors put up six runs in the top of the inning that to take a 9-5 lead. 

ECCC took advantage of four walks in the big eighth inning and key singles by Mitchell, Dylan Snypes of Wayne County High School and Billy Cameron of Mendenhall High School.

Freshman right-hand pitcher Tyler Ladner out of Pass Christian High School picked up the win.

East Central will be back in action Saturday, April 16, against Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville beginning at 2 p.m.
