ECCC’s No. 4 softball team sweeps Northeast Mississippi



The East Central Community College Lady Diamond Warriors picked up two more wins to improve their overall record to 32-5 and 16-4 in the MACJC after sweeping a doubleheader from Northeast Mississippi Community College, Saturday, April 2, on the Decatur campus. 

ECCC won game one 5-2 and game two 5-3 for the sweep.



Sophomore Lacey Hill of Kilbourne (La.) High School got it done in the circle in game one. Northeast was only able to get two hits off of Hill. She allowed one earned run and struck out three over seven innings.

After scoring two runs in the fourth, the Lady Diamond Warriors never surrendered the lead.

Mahalia Gibson of Oak Grove High School went 3-4 at the plate and drove in a run. She doubled in the first and third innings and singled in the fifth inning.

In game two, Maegen Ellis of Oak Hill Academy led the East Central offense going 2-3, driving in one run and scoring another. The Lady Diamond Warriors put up three runs in the first on two walks, a single, an error, and two passed balls. East Central added a run in the second on an Ellis double and another in the fourth when Summer Lavender, a product of Canton Academy, doubled, stole third and then scored on a passed ball.

Chloe Thaggard out of Leake Academy picked up the win for game two, allowing only three runs and four hits over seven innings in the circle.

The East Central softball team will be back in action against No. 3 ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Tuesday, April 5, on the Decatur campus. The doubleheader is set for 3 and 5 p.m.
