Hot Bats Allow East Central Baseball To Salvage Split With Mississippi Delta

The East Central Community College baseball team blasted 15 hits in game two against Mississippi Delta Community College to split a doubleheader, Sunday, April 3, in Moorhead. 

The 11-2 game two victory improved ECCC’s overall record to 20-12 and 8-6 in MACJC play. Mississippi Delta dropped to 5-5 in the conference and 17-7 overall.

Freshman Cole Prestegard of Huntsville (Ala.) High School went three for three at the plate, singling three times in the nightcap.

Diamond Warriors Dylan Snypes of Wayne County High School and Brandon Clark of Neshoba Central together had four hits and two RBI each.

ECCC never trailed in the ballgame, scoring two in the first and four more in the fourth.

Five runs in the seventh allowed the Diamond Warriors to run away with lead and the ballgame. East Central scored their five runs on an RBI double by Matt Mitchell of Lake High School, a two-run single by Snypes, an RBI single by Will Kennedy of Union High School, and an RBI single by Clark.

Sophomore right-hander Peyton Cain, a product of Newton County High School, picked up the win. He allowed two earned runs, struck out two, and surrendered five hits over five and one third innings.

In the 4-2 game one lose against the Trojans, East Central could not hold on to the 2-0 lead they took into the sixth inning.

Mississippi Delta scored three runs in the seventh to take the lead.
Right-hander Brock Morris of West Jones High School took the loss for East Central. He struck out three, walked two, and allowed five hits over six innings of work.

East Central will return to action against Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Tuesday, April 5 in the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
