ECCC Baseball Defeats Meridian In The MACJC Baseball Tournament

The East Central Community College baseball team jumped off to a big early lead for the third game in a row against Meridian Community College in the Mississippi Association Community and Junior Colleges State Baseball Tournament at Jones County Junior College’s Community Bank Park in Ellisville. The Warriors would hang on to win 19-11 despite plenty of offense from MCC. ECCC advances to the Region 23 Tournament to be hosted by the winner of the MACJC State Tournament.

MCC drops to 39-11, overall while ECCC improves to 34-15 on the season.The Diamond Warriors put up ten runs in the top of the first on a hit by pitch, a two-run single by Matt Mitchell of Lake High School, a hit by pitch, a hit by pitch, a passed ball, a two-run single by Nathan Roseberry of Purvis High School, an RBI double by Dylan Snypes Wayne County High School, and an RBI single by Cole Prestegard of Huntsville (Ala.) High School in the first inning supplied the early offense for Warriors.

Sophomore Luke Yancey of East Rankin High School picks up the win despite allowing seven runs over five innings he still recorded the victory. Yancey struck out two, walked five and gave up 10 hits.Three runs in the bottom of the third sparked MCC offense to close its deficit to 10-5 on a solo home run by Jaylon Keys, an RBI single by Blake Fields, and an RBI single by Baylor Obert for the Meridian comeback.East Central added four more runs in the fourth to extend the lead they would not surrender.

T.J. Lockett of Bibb County (Ala.) High School led the East Central offense with four RBI.The Meridian Eagles moves on to face Northwest Mississippi Community College at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 13. The Diamond Warriors will play the winner of the Jones County Junior College Friday, May 13 at 6 p.m. in Community Bank Park.
