Winston County Sheriff Dept Busy Over the Holiday Weekend

The Winston County Sheriff's Department working in conjunction with the Mississippi Highway
Patrol (MHP) conducted numerous checkpoints on Saturday evening and into the early morning hours on Sunday along county roads and state highways in Winston County. The Memorial Day holiday is a busy time for law enforcement and a concerted effort is made to conduct safety checks that may reduce accidents and remove impaired drivers from the road.

Winston County issued nearly 30 tickets for a range of charges including DUI, possession of a controlled substance, suspended license and lack of insurance. The Department also recovered two weapons.

Across the state, MHP issued nearly 9000 tickets over the four day period but only two fatalities occurred in that time period.
