
Dr. Towner has worked collaboratively with board members and
faculty to position the college for the future by bringing his vision to fruition at Coahoma. Dr. Towner has implemented Coahoma’s strategic faculty hiring initiative, which advances the college’s strategic goals of creating a more diversified faculty and supporting the development of employment opportunities for partners and spouses of faculty candidates. Before coming to Coahoma, Dr. Towner served as the director of pupil services for the Desoto County School District and as superintendent for the Quitman County School District from 2001 until 2010. He also served as a middle school principal in Quitman County and ACT test and algebra tutor for students at Coahoma Agricultural High School.

Dr. Towner was also a mathematics teacher and coach at Coahoma Community College and an adjunct mathematics professor at LeMoyne-Owen College. Dr. Towner received his Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi, Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary at Princeton, New Jersey, a Masters Degree in administration and a Masters Degree in science/mathematics from Alcorn State University. Dr. Towner also received his Bachelor of Science in mathematics at Alcorn State University and his Associates Degree at Coahoma Community College. Dr. Towner is a member and past board member of the Mississippi Association of School Superintendents (MASS). He has chaired and serves on the Board of Directors of the Delta Burial Corporation, a member of the State Chamber of Commerce (SCC) and Mississippi Economic Council (MEC).
He is a past board member for Coahoma Community College and Northwest Community College. He is the 10th pastor of the historic Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Greenwood, MS as well as President of the Mississippi Progressive Missionary Baptist State Convention Inc.. Dr. Towner is a frequent presenter and speaker in various educational and civic venues throughout the nation.
