6, 2017. A county fair theme, fireworks and music and an appearance by International Lions President Bob Corlew are some of the events on the agenda. The State Convention was scheduled to return to Louisville in May of 2014 but the tragic tornado that struck the community on April 28 of that year interrupted those plans.
Now Lions from all across the State will be back in Louisville
for the first time. More than 200 Lions from Mississippi is expected to attend
this very special convention as it corresponds with the Centennial celebration
for Lions International.
Of interest to the public is an open invitation to attend
festivities on Friday evening, May 5, that include an outdoor performance by
the Ms Lions All State Jazz Band on the grounds of Lake Tiak O’Khata followed
by a fireworks display from across the Lake. The Ms. Lions Band has won
multiple international awards. The music should start around 7:00 pm and the
fireworks should begin at dark. The band and fireworks are made possible by
corporate sponsorship and the efforts of the Louisville Tourism and Recreation Board.
Lions perform many functions across the world and locally,
including raising funds for the Lions Sight Foundation which maintains the state
cornea bank, supporting the Mid-South Lions in Memphis where individuals can
get free eye surgery. Locally, the
Louisville Lions help people in need of eyeglasses and hearing aids, provide
eye screenings for young children in local schools and daycares and supports
youth to attend yearly statewide
Leadership Conferences.
