Five Year Old Killed in Accidental Shooting

A tragedy on the 4th of July put a damper on what should have been a day of celebration. Five year
old Jeremiah Brown died in the early afternoon from a gunshot wound at a residence on Highpoint-Weir Road near the intersection with Shellie Brown Road in northwest Winston County.

The boy died when a weapon that he and his six year old brother had found in the home discharged, striking him in the head. The boys’ father and grandfather were in the home at the time but reports indicate they were sleeping after working a night shift.

It is unclear whether the child accidentally discharged the weapon or if his brother may have accidentally fired the shot. The body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
