PSC Approves State’s Largest Solar Farm

Jackson, Mississippi (August 18, 2017), Yesterday, the Public Service Commission unanimously approved a joint venture with Mississippi Power Company and Silicon Ranch (SR Meridian) for a 52.5 MW solar farm that will be constructed in Lauderdale County, the state’s largest solar farm thus far. The project will include approximately 570,000 solar panels and the plant is scheduled to begin providing energy by late 2019. The facility will generate enough electricity to power approximately 8,000 homes. The Lauderdale County facility will increase Mississippi Power Company’s solar capacity to 160 MW.“The PSC’s approval of this project once again demonstrates our commitment to responsibly increasing the use of solar energy in Mississippi to protect ratepayers and grow our economy,” said Chairman Brandon Presley.
