Beautification Day Held At Dean Park

The Friends of Dean Park, Inc. (FODP) held its quarterly Beautification Day on Saturday, March 10, 2018. It was a beautiful warm sunny day with not as much rain as forecasted. There were many people in and out of the park all day. Not all were there to help clean but FODP was pleased to see the park being used after being closed for 2 months against many visitors and members wishes. Because it was closed, there is plenty of work to be done which includes raking, picking up pine cones, racking pine needles, planting flowers, cleaning flower and garden beds, pruning and cleaning the playground landscape. There were many young children there to help with a few adults. FODP members teach gardening skills to young children. The following was planted by the children on Saturday: Georgia Collards, Red and Green Cabbage, Yellow Onion, Red Potatoes, petunias plants and marigold seeds. The children were treated to pizza and drinks. There is still Kale to be harvested by anyone who wants it from the raised bed gardens. Also, there is plenty of things to do for students who need community service hours. Spring planting will take place the afternoon of Good Friday which is March 30, 2018. Next Beautification Day is planned for June 9, 2018, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

FODP is asking its members to bring their dues up to date - $15/yr. Dues and/or donations can be mailed to: Friends of Dean Park, Inc., P. O. Box 365, Louisville, MS 39339. For further information, please contact Elmetra Patterson 510.672-2106.
