Road sign recovered |
The Winston County Sheriff’s Office executed a search
warrant last night (Monday) related to last week’s vandalism of the historic Sardis
Baptist Church in rural Winston County. At around 10:30 pm, law enforcement
searched a property on Hwy 14 E based upon information gathered in the
investigation. During the search, deputies found a pew taken from the church
and a pair of road signs in a shed located on the property.
The Sheriff’s Department is still seeking to complete an
interview with two juveniles believed to be involved in the case and charges of felony vandalism of a church, felony burglary of a church and possession of
stolen property are expected to be filed in Winston County Youth Court.

Sheriff Jason Pugh said, “At this point, we are ready to
turn this over to the prosecuting attorney and the court system. We believe we
have recovered or accounted for all missing property and identified those
involved. Vandalism and theft from a church is very serious and people get
emotional. We wanted to make sure that our investigation was thorough and
complete.”
The adults will be arraigned on Wednesday, July 25th
in Winston County Justice Court.
