Winston County 4H Offering New Programs for 2019

On behalf of the Winston County Extension staff, we’ like to wish everyone a safe and prosperous new year. We’d also like to let you know about some new and exciting programs that will be offered this upcoming year.

If you like to fish, or have an interest in learning how to fish for any species, then the “4H Sport Fishing Program” is for you. This program will introduce youth to anything and everything associated with the sport of fishing. Your child will learn from registered 4H volunteers: the history of fishing, fish identification, water quality, types of baits and lures, how to tie fishing knots, state laws, and much much more, even multiple opportunities to fish in local lakes and ponds. This program is not just classroom, its outdoors as well, and an opportunity to learn from experts in every area.

This year will not only bring fishing to the Winston 4H program, but also the sport of bicycling. If your child has a bike and you’d like for them to learn how to ride safely, understand cycling rules, the parts of a bike, interact with other youth interested in cycling, and have opportunities to compete with other 4H groups around the state, then this new program is for you.

If you have a young person between the ages of 8 to 18 that would like to take advantage of these new educational, and fun opportunities, then here’s what you need to do. Attend the meeting at the Winston Extension office on January 17th at 6pm. At this meeting you can learn what 4H is, our mission statement, and how your child will learn skills that will positively impact their lives for the rest of their life. After you meet the agents and volunteers, if you think 4H is for your family, we’ll sign your child up as one of Winston County’s newest 4Hers, and let the learning, and fun begin.
