The Winston County Master Gardeners Association members were encouraged by County Agent Jim McAdory to seek educational hours by touring Mississippi State University’s (MSU) grounds to see the flower beds. It was arranged by the Associate Director of Campus Landscape, Bart Prather for the gardeners to meet with horticulturalist, Jim Bo Hearnsberger, who would be their guide. On Saturday, April 27, 2019, five of the gardeners took advantage of this opportunity and found it to be a beautiful day for the adventure.

They learned that MSU, in 2015 and 2016, had been awarded a Green Star Award from the Maryland-based Professional Ground Management Society which is for exceptional grounds maintenance among U. S. universities and colleges. The society was founded in 1911 and has since dedicated it’s time to advancing the grounds management profession.

MSU is nearly a 142-year-land grant institution and takes tremendous pride in keeping its grounds beautiful. Landscape operations are part of the Campus Services division directed by Vice President Amy Tuck. The Winston County master gardeners were grateful that Winston County Agent Jim McAdory arranged the tour for them.
