Historical Marker of Civil War Event Placed in Louisville.

It was a lengthy process that culminated on Thursday, February 27 with the raising of a plaque that commemorates an event in Winston County history. During the Civil War, Union cavalry made a raid through central Mississippi during the Vicksburg campaign. Known as Grierson’s Raid, the cavalrymen rode through Winston County on April 22, 1863.

Through the efforts of Guards 2643 United Daughters of the Confederacy Chapter in Louisville, funds were raised and documentation provided to erect a marker on the lawn of the Winston County Partnership Offices (known as the Community House) that recognizes the event.
