Don't Forget the Census - Your Information is Important to Your Community

Although our response to COVID-19 is the priority for most of us right now, we don't need to forget that we are in the middle of the 2020 Census. Providing census data is extremely important. An accurate and complete count of our population dictates everything from our political representation at the federal and state levels, to distribution of federal funds and business decisions for employers and companies to locate in our area.

Louisville Mayor Will Hill provided some information as to the status of  the Census across Mississippi and Winston County. The data was provided by "One Voice".

The most recent data indicates that slightly less than one half of households across the state have responded. (48.4%). This is slightly below the national response at 50.7%. Most households received a request invitation in March.

While there is still a long way to go, Winston County response at 52.5% has been better than most counties across the state and slightly higher than the national average. See the map below for Mississippi response rates.

Due to the virus, Census workers have not been in the field. Weather issues have also slowed response across the state.  All these factors have made the 2020 census a challenge.

It is easier than ever to complete the census however, as you have the option to complete a written form, or respond by telephone or online.  The following link provides information as to how to respond to the Census:
