Storm Brings Power Outages and Tree Damage to Winston County

Winston County fared fairly well during Sunday's storms. The National Weather Service is reporting 13 radar defined tornadoes across Louisiana and Mississippi. The majority of tornadoes in Mississippi occurred in the southern part of the state and took as many as eleven lives.

A tornado was also reported in Noxubee County doing some damage along the Hwy 45 corridor north of Macon.

For Winston County, storm related watches and warnings began early and continued until midnight. Limited power outages in mid-afternoon were followed by additional outages later in the evening. At last report this morning, power had been restored to the majority of homes in Louisville and across the county. Excessive rain caused some localized flooding and made streets and county roads dangerous to travel.

Straight line winds across the area from approximately 10:30 to 11:30 pm did much of the damage. Some trees were reported down but as of this morning a full damage report is not available.
