Storm Shelters Will Be Available If Needed - With Some Additional Rules

With the threat of severe weather on Sunday, officials are faced with a concern over the use of public storm shelters during this COVID-19 pandemic. The close contact required increases the risk of the spread of the virus.

The shelters will be open if needed as the danger of  severe weather takes precedent. There are some procedural changes and requirements if you have a need of the shelters:

  • The shelters will be open only during the time of an imminent threat of bad weather.
  • Wash or sanitize your hands before entering.
  • Social distancing will be enforced. Stay with your family group.
  • Use of a mask is required, covering your mouth and nose.  If you do not currently have a mask, attempt to find one now. It is possible some masks will be available at the shelter but supplies are extremely limited. Don't depend on a mask being provided.
  • If you are ill, inform the shelter staff.
  • Limit your movement once inside.
  • Be respectful of others
  • No pets allowed (as always)
  • Leave immediately once the threat has passed and sanitize again
You may want to consider changing clothes and bathing when you return home.
